Bridge Builder - Kiwi Chinese Builders Conference & Expo
The NZCBIA 2017 Annual Conference & NZ International Property and Building Expo served to bridge the cultural barrier between Chinese and Kiwi builders. clwas held in Vodafone Events Centre in Auckland. The third Annual Conference held by the NZCBIA (New Zealand Chinese Building Industry Association) was deemed a success as it closed at Vodafone Events Centre becoming the major event of the Chinese building industry in NZ. The two day NZ International Property and Building Expo ran in conjunction with the conference.
There was a grand opening ceremony with MPs Jian Yang and Jami-Lee Ross, Board Chairman Hailong Hu, NZCBIA President Frank Xu, and representatives of diamond sponsors PlaceMakers and Avanda delivering speeches to formally cut the ribbon opening the event.
The six workshops focused on the challenges faced by the building industry and controversial issues, such as the “Unitary Plan” and “Belt and Road Initiative”, encompassed the following topics: residential and commercial building’s construction and design, property marketing and finance, and how to start a business in New Zealand. Dr Jian Yang MP delivered an insightful speech about how NZ can benefit from China’s “Belt and Road Initiative Policy” in a workshop, which was unanimously applauded by all the attendees.
Nicole Rosie, the CEO of Work Safe NZ, along with a panel comprised of leaders from across the industry attended the NZCBIA Building State of the Nation Summit, to summarise changes the industry had observed during the last 12 months and future challenges and opportunities in the current construction market. The Annual Conference ended with a Gala Dinner for 500 guests with Keynote speech from Hon. Dr. Nick Smith, Minister for Building and Construction followed by Dr. Jian Yang MP. NZCBIA presented a $10,000 scholarship and NZCBIA board member Archiland presented a $12,000 scholarships to reward an outstanding architecture student at UNITEC. PlaceMakers was awarded Best Booth Exhibitor at the dinner.
Sponsors PlaceMakers and Avanda Group were supported by 120 exhibitors with several government sectors participating in the first NZ International Property and Building Expo as a professional platform to reach the Kiwi Chinese community. The Expo was open to the public free of charge, with more than 8300 visitors over the two days partaking in 17 special promotions with more than 20 property projects for those interested in real estate. Vplus donated a $2,000 + smart TV as a door prize, along with hourly giveaways from Imperial Private Safety Vault, Manor Winery, and sponsorship packs (souvenirs) provided by NZCBIA.
Sponsors and exhibitors deemed NZCBIA 2017 Annual Conference & NZ International Property and Building Expo a successful event that engaged the suppliers, contractors, developers and consultants in property and building industries with the NZ Chinese community as an effective mutually beneficial platform to share information and resources.
